Emirates Airlines to begin Bitcoin payments for flights.

Emirate Airlines, the largest airline provider in the UAE, has announced that it will begin accepting Bitcoin as a method of payment, according to Arab News.

According to media reports, Emirates Airlines intends to use technologies such as the Blockchain network, Metaverse, and Cryptocurrency to usher in a new form of digital interactions with its customer base.

The plan is to place Emirates Airlines at the forefront of Blockchain technology, and at the same time connecting the customers to a faster, more efficient, manner of payment option. The airline announced they would also build a new Metaverse, and NFT division, to facilitate the monitoring of customer service.

Statistically speaking, UAE Crypto transactions amount to nearly $25 Billion every year, which placed the country third in terms of the amount of crypto traded, after Lebanon, and Turkey.

Emirates will add Bitcoin as a payment option, while also adding NFT collectibles for trading purposes.

This is not the first time that the airline has shown interest in the digital assets ecosystem. They announced last month that they “ will soon launch NFT’s and exciting experiences in the metaverse for its customers and employees” as part of its plan to be one of the leading airlines in Web3.

The list of airlines now accepting Bitcoin payments are, AirBaltic, Peach Aviation, and Polish Airlines. Richard Branson, the eccentric billionaire founder of Virgin Airlines, has stated that his commercial space project Virgin Galactic will also begin accepting Bitcoin payments.
