Staples Center to be Renamed to Crypto.com Arena
The Staples Center, home to the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers and Lakers, will be renamed the “Crypto.com” arena after an agreement with the stadium owner AEG.
Crypto.com has reached an agreement with AEG, purchasing the naming rights of the stadium for $700 million over 20 years. For reference, Staples paid $100 million back in 1999 for a 10 year agreement.
AEG is a multinational sports and entertainment company that owns several arenas and sports franchises. AEG chief revenue officer Dan Goldstein called the partnership an “exciting new chapter,” and that the “partnership represents the world’s fastest growing cryptocurrency platform and the world’s greatest sports and live entertainment business combining to build the future of sports and live entertainment.”
The renaming process will be completed in time for the NBA’s Christmas Day schedule in December, where the Los Angeles Lakers will face off against the Brooklyn Nets.
