SEC Adds Crypto Advisor

  • The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) chair Gary Gensler has announced the addition of a new senior policy advisor focusing specifically on cryptocurrency regulation and policy making.

  • The announcement states that Corey Frayer, former staff member of the Senate banking Committee and senior policy advisor for the House Financial Services Committee, will be taking the newly created position under Gensler.

  • Additional positions have been created under the chair’s executive staff to include Philipp Havenstein, Jennifer Songer, and Jorge Tenreiro, who will all work under Gensler focusing on policy, enforcement, and agency operations.

  • The SEC is currently facing an important moment in the beginning of 2022 with the departure of SEC commissioner Elad Roisman and the expiration of commissioner Allison Lee’s term in June. President Joe Biden will have the opportunity to select replacements for these positions.
