Cross-chain interoperability is one of the biggest issues that blockchain developers are trying to solve as it would increase the efficiency and usability of all the chains involved. Currently, you can not swap USDC on the Ethereum blockchain to the Stellar chain because the two chains are not capable of interacting with each other. Even though it is the same token it will be sent into the ether losing your funds.
Many projects are working on solving that and to further advance their ability in doing so, Cardano has acquired the Infinity Blockchain Group. This will help Cardano by bringing more resources as well as speed up research and development.
Cardano has had interoperability on its list of long-term goals since the beginning since they released it is better to connect all chains instead of just having closed-off ecosystems. Decentralized Exchange Sundae Swap, a Cardano-based dex, partnered with Nervos Blockchain in September for the same reasons. Sundae Swap is set to launch its mainnet in the coming days.
ADA has launched an ERC-20 converter which will allow it to migrate ERC-20 tokens to the Cardano blockchain. Interoperability is also the focus of another ADA competitor, Polkadot, as well as others and will be one of the bigger technological advances to look out for in 2022.
