Did Solana Suffer Another Network Outage?

The high-throughput blockchain was hit with congestion issues again yesterday. Read the full article by: Timothy Craig

Key Points:

  • Solana may still be one of the hottest names in the market since it sprung into prominence over the summer but it is showing it still has some flaws. On September 15th the Solana foundation had to shut down the network for 18 hours because of a denial of serve attack.

  • Solana based project Raydium, similar to Kusama on Polkadot, caused major congestion to the network causing transactions to slow down significantly. The high speed blockchain saw its transactions per second drop by close to 50% yesterday; however, this time the network did not go offline.

  • The cause of this congestion was for the Initial DEX Offering for a meta verse project called Realy. Bots were the main issue here as so many of them were deployed to get in on the IDO that it caused massive congestion. Since the network did not go offline this time around it would seem that Solana is at least working on it.

  • The project itself is aiming to combine social networking, e-commerce, gaming, and trading as metaverses continue to steal headlines. As for Solana even if they are fixing the issues it is not encouraging that this is the second time in the last 4 months that something like this has happened. While it is still a sign of growth for the network the bot issue needs to be controlled somehow.
