The CME announced that starting on December 6th they will be expanding their crypto futures offerings past just BTC with ETH micro futures. Micro futures are a way for regular retail investors to be able to participate in trading assets who’s regular future price may be too rich.
Currently the CME also has regular Ethereum futures which would let investors buy into contracts of 50 ETH which would be about $224,780. Micro futures contracts will be priced around $450 in contrast.
This may not seem all that enticing for many regular crypto enthusiasts but it gives investors in the traditional market a way to expose themselves to a new asset without having to leave a broker they’re comfortable with or create a new account with an exchange they are not sure of.
“At the same time, the price of [ETH] has more than doubled since these contracts were introduced, creating demand for a micro-sized contract to make this market even more accessible to a broader range of participants. Micro [ETH] futures will offer even more choice and precision in how they trade [ETH] futures in a transparent, regulated and efficient manner at CME Group," he said.
