Epic Welcomes Blockchain Games, as Steam Bans them

Following Video game developer, Valve’s recent ban of NFT games, on their popular pc launcher, Epic makers of Fornite and the Epic launcher, has released a statement welcoming the innovative technology.

CEO Tim Sweeney said on Friday “Epic Games Store will welcome games that make use of blockchain tech provided they follow the relevant laws, disclose their terms and are age-rated by an appropriate group. Though Epic's not using crypto in our games, we welcome innovation in the areas of technology and finance.”

Many have speculated that Epic would be best suited to adopt the tech due to their development of arguably the biggest game franchise of all time in Fortnite. But Mr.Sweeney has stomped traction this idea had saying in the past that Epic as the developer has no plans to add NFT’s to Fortnite.

This is understandable with how wild west the space is especially regarding regulation. I can talk all day about NFT’s amazing benefits and a couple of projects that I believe will be pointed at as the beginning of a truly radically technically change. But I‘ll be the first to admit that there is no clear-cut way of defining them, let alone think about regulation.

Epics comments are smart, welcoming developers and letting them lay the groundwork, knowing that in the future when the pivotal questions are finny answered regarding NFT’s, they can now say they were champions of the tech and maybe even buy a couple of these developers providing funding, and benefiting from their tech. Or on the flip side, if it ever lights on fire then they can step away unscathed pointing to this tweet and original comments.
