New York Hires New Virtual Currency Official
The New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) has recently hired Peter Marton to serve as deputy superintendent of virtual currency.
The position is within the NYDFS Research and Innovation Division and will specifically focus on virtual and digital currencies, blockchain technology, and other related innovations.
Peter Marton has previously worked at Promontory Financial Group, a subsidiary of IBM for 6 years and spent the last 6 months specifically acting as its director of digital assets.
“Crypto supervision should be a marathon, not a sprint, and I look forward to continue this effort in earnest,” says Marton in a celebratory LinkedIn post.
The NYDFS is responsible for the regulation of financial services and products in the State of New York, and is the regulator behind the New York BitLicense, a permit that all cryptocurrency based businesses operating in New York are mandated to have.
