New NYC Mayor to Accept First Paychecks in Bitcoin

  • Newly elected New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced on Thursday that he will opt to take his first three paychecks in Bitcoin when taking office in January.

  • The announcement came in the form of a tweet in response to the Mayor of Miami Francis Suarez’ vow to take his next paycheck in bitcoin.

  • Adams has maintained a pro-crypto stance during his campaign in an effort to attract more support from the blossoming industry. This decision could mark a shift in New York City’s and New York State’s stance towards crypto which currently has some of the nation’s strictest policies in terms of licensing approval for crypto businesses operating in the state.

  • The decision is also a sign of the financial capital’s attempts to maintain its status as competitors from rival cities such as Miami vie to attract businesses from the field.
