Mining Update 04/19/2022

Ethereum miners are squeezing every last drop

The Ethereum network hashrate has been steadily increasing, despite the upcoming merge. The Merge will mark the end of proof-of-work for ETH, and the full transition to proof-of-stake. This was formerly referred to as “the docking.” Last week on April 12, ETH developer Tim Beiko confirmed that this update would likely take place a few months after June. The shadow forks performed earlier this month have revealed additional updates required for a successful transition on the mainnet.

Hut 8 to be 100% self-mining

Hut 8 is one of the largest mining firms with 3 mining sites in Canada. Hut 8 offers many mining related services including cloud hosting and mining. The company has been hosting 960 MicroBT Whatsminers in an agreement with TAAL.
The new agreement will conclude this hosting relationship and the Whatsminers will be purchased by Hut 8. Since the miners are already installed and mining at one of their facilities, it will be an easy transition for Hut 8 and will bring their total hashrate to 2.62 EH/s.

TAAL Distributed Information Dechnologies Inc (CSE: TAAL) is also a Canadian firm that deals in many crypto related services. TAAL published yesterday April 18, that they have completed the sale and partnership plans with Chief Fuels for a 50 Megawatt Bitcoin mining facility in New Brunswick.
