What are Ethereum Layer 2 Solutions?

Layer 2 is a different network running on top of the main, layer 1 Ethereum network. This allows transactions to be handled off the ETH Mainnet, while still being able to take advantage of the decentralized security of the Mainnet. This is useful for reducing fees for users and faster transaction throughput.
