Right-clicking on NFTs has gotten people some clout by pretending that they own an image by making it their profile picture across social media platforms. This causes a rift between the actual owners and the people that are just trying to ride a wave for more followers or influence. Right-clicking is just the process of saving an image to your computer or phone.
NFT owners want to proudly showcase their newly acquired pieces and making them your profile picture is the most popular way of doing so. Some even become known or psudeononmously known just by their avatars. Yesterday Twitter made it possible to verify your NFT by connecting your wallet to your Twitter account. One negative of this is that it now gives the IRS another way of targeting those who made a lot of money on capital gains and airdrops that are not reporting their profits.
The feature will change the regular circle profile picture to a rectangle to signify that the picture is an NFT. As of right now, this feature is only available to Twitter Blue users which means that if you want to verify the NFT is yours then you are going to have to pay a monthly fee. If you are holding NFTs on Coinbase Wallet, Metamask, Trust Wallet, and Argent then you will be able to verify your PFP.
“Twitter is where people go to talk about things that they care about, and often where people have their first experience with crypto and NFTs,” the company told TechCrunch. “We’re now seeing people use NFTs as a form of identity and self-expression, and as a way to join the thriving community and increasingly active conversation on Twitter.”
Twitter is doing a lot to integrate crypto into its platform. In the summer of last year, they added the ability to tip content creators with crypto and are also in the middle of working on a Bitcoin-based decentralized exchange. Twitter is in the middle of building its own crypto team that will be working on all of this. Jack Dorsey is fully immersed in crypto through all of his companies and will continue helping to drive mass adoption.
