Intel’s First Generation Mining Chips Are Underwhelming

Intel has already signed contracts to supply their second-gen chip to big players in the crypto mining industry. Intel’s second-gen chips are expected later this year and are likely to be derivatives for the current, first-gen BMZ1 ASICs. Technical details are not yet available for the second-gen miners.

The current mining system is composed of 300 of these BMZ1 chips spread across 4 hash boards.

The specs for the first-gen don’t allow for this miner to compete with the top ASIC manufacturers like Bitmain.
For comparison, Bitmains S19j Pro is rated for 100 TH/s at 3050W. This is more than double the output with less electric consumption than the first-gen Intel Bonanza Miners.

Argo Blockchain (ARGO), Block (SQ), and Griid Infrastructure will be among the first to get Intels new chips later this year. Griid Infrastructure entered into a supply agreement in which Intel will sell at least a quarter of its mining ASICs to Griid until the year 2025.
