Intel Won't Limit Crypto Mining on New Alchemist Graphics Cards

NVADIA & AMD have been wrestling with the recent rise in crypto mining that has led to prices for GPUs to skyrocket, and fans looking to build new rigs frustrated. Intel is now faced with the same issue leading up to the release of their new “Arc graphic cards”.

Rodger Chandler VP and GM of Client Graphic Products and Solutions at Intel spoke with Gadget 360 where he revealed that the computing giant would not include software restrictions to mining crypto on its new line of graphics cards.

"We're not designing this product or building any features at this point that specifically target miners," Chandler said. "As far as actions we're taking to avoid or lock them out, it's a product that will be in the market and people will be able to buy it."

NVIDIA has put software restrictions on their hardware in the past with hash rate limiters meant to reduce the card's ability to mine crypto. I wrote a week back, about AMD’s stance on mining, with their stance being more neutral, to say the least.

Going forward this will be a continuing problem until Etherum sees its move to a Proof-Of-Stake infrastructure. Wholly eliminating the need for giant facilities built with hundreds of gaming cards.
