Fidelity to Launch Spot Bitcoin ETF in Canada
U.S. based investment firm Fidelity Investments is launching an exchange traded fund (ETF) on the Toronto Stock Exchange in Canada.
The “spot” ETF will be backed by physical Bitcoin as opposed to the Bitcoin ETF offerings in the U.S. that currently are based on futures derivatives contracts.
Bitcoin ETFs are available in several countries around the world including Canada, Brazil, and Dubai. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has so far rejected every Bitcoin spot ETF application, citing investor protections as one of their primary reasons.
Fidelity is one of the world’s largest asset managers with almost $4 trillion in assets under management.
