Ethereum Merge Delayed Again??

Ethereum’s longest lived Proof-of-Work testnet, the Ropsten Testnet has been in the process of being switched to proof-of-stake with the Beacon chain. The new beacon chain allows for the new proof-of-stake network to be laid on top of the current proof-of-work network. This test stage is pivotal before fully merging, even on a testnet.

Last we heard, ETH developers were confident for an August Merge of the mainnet, while ETH co-founder Vitalik Buterin was more conservative and estimated for a September/October release.

The latest Ropsten Testnet Merge was delayed by a security vulnerability called a “reorg.” Reorgs lead to networks branching into two parallel chains due to disagreements on the last minted block between validators. This was promptly fixed by validators agreeing on which chain to follow and which to abandon. New blocks were issued onto the correct chain and transactions sent to the other were redirected to the correct chain. This reorg likely would not have happened if all validators had updated their client software as recommended.
It seems transactions are going through without any problems now. Review transactions on etherscan.
