In the early days, Bitcoin made up the vast majority of the market share. It wasn’t until 2017 that other tokens started to take a larger percentage of the cryptocurrency market. Since then, coins such as Ethereum have started to secure a larger share of the market.

Is this an issue for Bitcoin?

Not necessarily. It’s very likely that over time, as more and more people enter the space that Bitcoin will take up less and less of the overall market share. People will also start to understand the technology behind cryptocurrency and blockchain as well as the use-case scenarios of certain tokens versus others. As this happens, coins will start to be traded more for their use-case scenarios and merit than internet virality.
