  • Binance, the largest crypto exchange in terms of transacted volume, has created a position for a chief regulatory liaison officer for the first time as it attempts to create a more favorable relationship with global financial regulators.

  • Mark McGinness has been appointed to the position, bringing with him his 16 years of experience as head of international relations at the Dubai Financial Services Authority. McGinness has helped create a global network of over 85 regulators for the financial center during his time in Dubai, and also previously held advisory roles at the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

  • This comes as part of Binance’s ongoing efforts to appease global regulators that have previously criticized, and some outright prohibiting, the crypto exchange’s business practices. CEO Changpeng “CZ” Zhao has recently publicized his goal of shifting “from a tech startup to a financial institution.”
