$9.7 Billion in eCNY transactions during China’s CBDC trials

China launched their central bank digital currency (CBDC) for the digital yuan or eCNY, earlier this year with hopes to fully launch for the Beijing Winter Olympics in February 2022. There have been several wallets and apps created to interact/transact with the digital currency.
The digital currency has been testing throughout major provinces since April 2020. Reports show that 140 million people had opened wallets for eCNY and 10 million corporate accounts have been created.
