The Cryptoqueen Just Hit Europe’s Most Wanted List

The co-founder of OneCoin, Dr. Ruja Ignatova, who scammed investors out of $5 billion back in 2017, has been added to Europe's most wanted list on Wednesday.

The European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol) is offering a 5,000 Euro bounty for any information leading to the arrest of the “Cryptoqueen,” for seeking investments for OneCoin, an "actually worthless currency."

Dr. Ignatova started OneCoin in 2014, dubbing it the "Bitcoin killer." During the next few years, she raised capital all over the world, throughout 176 different countries. Up until word had gotten out that OneCoin truly was only for one person, as it was an alleged Ponzi scheme.

Since then Ruja's whereabouts have been unknown her last sighting being boarding a plane to Athens, Greece back in 2017.

BBC is currently working on adapting this crazy sequence of events for TV. During production, documents leaked show British investors handed over $30 million Euros to purchase OneCoins in 2016. Further investigation mind-blowingly found that the coin didn't even have an established blockchain.

While the Cryptoqueen has somehow evaded the law (like a real-life version of Carmen Sandiego), her conspirators have had less luck. In 2019, OneCoin’s lawyer, Mark Scott, was found guilty of conspiracy to commit money laundering and bank fraud by the U.S. District Court in Manhattan.

Her own brother, Konstantin Ignatov, even plead guilty to fraud and money laundering before testifying against Scott in his trial.

This tale should show some crypto criminals that even if you're getting away with it now, you never know what some government agencies are building against you. Not everyone can be as lucky as the Cryptoqueen.
