FTX Charges for NFT Submissions After Users Spam Marketplace With Fish

FTX's new non-fungible marketplace has got off to a weird start.

On September 1st, FTX launched their own NFT marketplace, but things didn’t do as smoothly as Sam Bankman-Fried would’ve liked. While FTX touted before its release, that their marketplace would have almost no minting fees. The company quickly had to go back on that statement, when right as the platform launched, it got flooded with photos of dead fish. An obvious joke by a bunch of NFT enthusiasts, but this joke turned into a $500 fee to mint any piece of work on the application. Do not fret, as this fee was announced to be only temporary, as it was changed this morning to $10, & everyone who paid $500 was refunded. It is disappointing that this happened, but let us not forget the alternative with minting NFTs, the pricey gas fee. Most exchanges make you pay a gas fee to mint, and that same fee can fluctuate throughout the day, so if you ask me id rather pay a flat rate to mint than one dependent on the mood of the market.
