Reddit Post Job Listing for NFT Platform Designer

Famous online discussion forum Reddit has announced plans to bring NFT’s to its platform, enabling users to buy and sell the digital collectibles through its site.

The news came as Reddit posted a job listing for a “Senior Backend Engineer, NFT platform”, according to the post the position will be responsible for the “design, build and ship backend services for millions of users to create, buy, sell and use NFT-backed digital goods.”

As many of you know an NFT is a token that verifies the ownership of a digital item on the blockchain, such as a piece of art, MP3 file, or video game item. The job listing points at the recent explosion in NFT growth over the past year, which saw 2.5 billion in trading volume at the beginning of 2021, turn into 10.67 billion by the third quarter.

Its mentions how NFT’s could be pivotal in the future of Metaverse spaces, and how they could be a new form of rewarding communities.“If there is one thing we’ve noticed with NFTs, they too have an incredible power to create a sense of participation and belonging,” it reads. “With every new NFT project, a vibrant community of owners pops up with it. Fans of today’s biggest creators and brands are now flocking to buy digital goods directly from them—to support them, to gain exclusive access, and to feel a greater sense of connection with them.”

This team will build a platform that hopes to compete with giants such as FTX and Coinbase, who both recently jumped into the NFT space themselves. With FTX launching its NFT exchange in September, and Coinbase just recently stating its plans on October 13th starting a waitlist to test interest in the feature.

Reddit previously dabbled with the new form of collectible, when it sold a set of Reddit-branded collectibles back in June, containing 4 avatars inspired by the site’s mascot. The sale was held on OpenSea and garnered about 1.85 million in trading volume to this day.
