The biggest issue with the NFT and crypto space as a whole is that people’s wallets are being hacked left and right and there is almost no way of recovering those funds once they are gone. For NFTs, this has become a huge problem especially through Discord servers where malicious links and DMs are being sent non-stop.

Possibly the most well-known project, The Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), has seen its owners fall victim to these scams. Artist Todd Kramer revealed on Twitter that his collection of 16 Bored and Mutant Apes (MAYC) was completely wiped from his account after clicking on a fugazzi link. For context, the bare minimum that a Bored ape is going for right now is over $200,000, and mutant apes going for close to $50,000. Over the past week, BAYC has seen $1 billion in sales.

Sadly, Kramer did not find much support by doing this and in fact, got a lot of ridicule and was the butt of many jokes on Twitter following his plea for help. He did however get lucky that Opensea actually helped him out by freezing those apes so they can’t be traded anywhere else and others on Twitter actually helped him recover multiple of the stolen apes.

It is good to see that there are people willing to help and ways that you can actually recover your lost or stolen assets in the event that they become compromised. It is very important to be careful on any of these websites as there are always people looking to separate you from your money. Since the space is so new it brings a lot of opportunities to scammers and as it grows this will become less of a risk.
