Discord Potential Wallet Integration, Sends Their Community Spiraling

Discord is the world’s most popular discussion app, featuring cross-platform accessibility, as well as being the new hub for many communities around the Internet. Today CEO Jason Citron, tweeted out a screenshot of a new feature, sending their community into a frenzy.

The screenshot in question is of the Discords settings menu, specifically the connections section, which contains a teaser to what looks like Metamask & Walletconnect integration.

The options are not currently available for public use, more than likely being a screenshot of early development.

Jason is currently not responding to anyone, but one can not blame him for the division the community has been driven to, in response to this teaser.

The tweet is currently splitting the community, Discord is made up of mostly gamers, but recently the NFT community has taken to using it as a hub for communication throughout the space.

In response, a couple of users began to start to cancel their turbo subscription Discord premium membership. One user tweeted “Disappointing but it seems I don’t have any other choice. I’m not willing to support Discord if this is the direction the company is pursuing,”.

These tweets fall in line with how most of the game industry is responding to NFT’s and Crypto in general, uninformed and gatekeeping because the service has now found use past these niche communities, and has found more niche communities?

I haven’t been able to compile all my thoughts on the NFT hate within the game industry but this is just another example of stifling innovation, with a tech that has so much potential. But unlike with other cancel culture style hits, individuals within gaming have started before, NFT’s are too big to cancel now, so whatever these people think will happen with their “boycotts”...probably won’t.
