Crypto Accounts for 14% of AMC’s Online Purchases
AMC enabled crypto payments about a year ago, and now the movie theater company has revealed that the coins account for 14% of their online transactions. Users can currently pay for their tickets & concessions with Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Bitcoin Cash.
The news comes from CEO Adam Aron saying, “Big newsflash! As promised, many new ways NOW to pay online at AMC. We proudly now accept drumroll, please…Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin. Also Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal. Incredibly, they already account for 14% of our total online transactions! Dogecoin next.” Aron tweeted on Thursday.”
Nestled at the end of the tweet was a teaser for Dogecoin to become a part of the company’s payment methods. This is something Aron tested public demand for in September with a Twitter poll, asking people if they should add the meme coin.
The poll got 140,388 votes with the mass majority, roughly 68% responding, “Yes, for sure do it.”
AMC has a close relationship with Doge, due to the rise in both market caps around January during the GME Saga. The month was riddled with stories and speculation of the prices of these assets rising to $1,000 and $1, for AMC & Doge respectively.
14% is a big jump in two months of the service being accessible, but it shouldn’t surprise anyone who follows the “AMC Apes” on Twitter. They’re a strong and loyal group, who’ve rallied behind the theater company and given them a second chance, after the tumultuous year of 2020.
