Coinbase Entering Esports
Coinbase is entering the world of gaming, but unlike other companies succumbing to metaverse fever, they’re going the more traditional route, sponsoring an Esports team. Team Liquid is the team in question, competing in games such as Leauge Of Legends, Call of Duty, and Fortnite.
The team has been around since the early 2000s and is a respected establishment within the community. The partnership is said to be focused on “the crossover between gaming and crypto-curious audiences” as well as creating new seemingly crypto-focused content.
Coinbase will now be providing crypto payments on Liquid marketplace, with the duo both looking into technology that encourages fan interaction. As well as having their logo on team jerseys, and could potentially help with Liquid branded NFT’s
“Like a lot of our fans, crypto was new to me once, but once I started reading and watching, I realized that it wasn’t some passing fad — it’s here now, and will be in the future,” said Team Liquid owner and co-CEO Steve Arhancet. “Together with Coinbase, we hope we can demystify crypto for Team Liquid fans.”
The number one crypto exchange isn’t the first to pen a deal with a video game-related company. FTX continued their quest of partnerships earlier this year when they signed a 7 year deal with the Leauge Champion Series the producers of League of Legends Tournaments.
Kraken and Gemini will likely follow as crypto and video games seem to be having a renaissance, one that fans in the gaming community have not been too fond of. But this isn’t as threatening to the gamers as some recent announcements have been perceived.
