Cardano 1.35.0 Released
Cardano node has officially pushed version 1.35.0 over the weekend with some important notes. The first line of the release notes state that “this is not final release notes”.
x.x.0 versions are typically updated to x.x.1 very quickly. A large portion of this update is to prepare node operators for the upcoming Vasil hard fork. This icludes node and CLI support for the following:
Plutus v2 primitives and the associated new cost model
The notes also state that significant improvements were made to the logging and monitoring systems, codebases, and memory/time performances.
This update does include various breaking changes to address any issues left from the Babbage era. The Babbage era was an update following the Alonzo Era and named after mathematician Charles Babbage.
Small Pool Operators (SPO’s) have been looking forward to a P2P (peer-to-peer) feature for a long time. The past few updates included set up for the feature, but we may finally see that functionality soon.
At the moment, Cardano node operators connect to other relay nodes by specifying IP addresses in their start up scripts (listing peer relay nodes to connect to). This process is automated through two additional scripts that, through APIs, automatically fetch a number of peers from a list. The second script has be to run every hour (to the minute) to verify that your relay node is up so that your IP address can be added to that list for other nodes to connect to. Connections have to go both ways (node 1 and node 2 must both add each other to their peer list to establish an incoming and outgoing connection.
This process would be simplified through a P2P functionality. Users wouldn’t have to use scripts to maintain peers or worry about other nodes adding theirs.
