Key Points:

  • ETH 2.0 is getting closer to actually becoming a thing after multiple years of delays. The London hard fork a couple months ago was the first major step in the saga leading to ETH 2.0 and now the “Altair” upgrade is set to launch on October 27th.

  • “This upgrade brings light-client support to the core consensus, cleans up beacon state incentive accounting, fixes some issues with validator incentives, and steps up the punitive params as per EIP-2982.”

  • This upgrade will be the first to the beacon chain and will lay the framework for the proof-of-stake consensus which will make it economically secure. In the proposal “slashing” and “inactivity leak” are proposed penalties to keep bad actors from taking advantage of the network.
