Key Points:
ETH 2.0 is getting closer to actually becoming a thing after multiple years of delays. The London hard fork a couple months ago was the first major step in the saga leading to ETH 2.0 and now the “Altair” upgrade is set to launch on October 27th.
“This upgrade brings light-client support to the core consensus, cleans up beacon state incentive accounting, fixes some issues with validator incentives, and steps up the punitive params as per EIP-2982.”
This upgrade will be the first to the beacon chain and will lay the framework for the proof-of-stake consensus which will make it economically secure. In the proposal “slashing” and “inactivity leak” are proposed penalties to keep bad actors from taking advantage of the network.
