Anti-Vax Truckers Have Raised $700K in Bitcoin—And Have Elon Musk's Support

There are many ways that Bitcoin can be used in different sectors of the finance space. One that has been gaining popularity is charity organizations accepting crypto as a form of donation. In Canada, we are now seeing just how important Bitcoin can be since there is no central entity that can shut it down.

Canadian truckers have been protesting the vaccine mandates that are forcing drivers to get the jab. This mandate was specifically for drivers that re-enter Canada from the US. The “Freedom Convoy” as they have come to be known, was originally receiving donations on GoFundMe like so many others do. This time; however, GoFundMe started blocking donations that were going towards that cause. In collaboration with Ottawa law enforcement, they blocked a total of $10 million that was supposed to towards the Freedom Convoy.

Since those donations were blocked a total of 4,877 donors have raised 16 Bitcoin worth about $700,000. It may not be close to the $10 million they were supposed to get but it shows that there is no way to stop people from putting money into Bitcoin and using it however they want. This is because it is a pure person-2-person exchange when sending BTC from one wallet to another. That as well as the advanced technology makes it that much harder for governments to prevent the sending and receiving of payments.

The fundraiser is being held on “Tallycoin” a crowdfunding platform that is native to the Bitcoin network. Donors include some big names in the crypto space including Kraken CEO, Jesse Powell who donated a full BTC to the cause with a message that stated "Fix the money, fix the world. Mandates are immoral. End the madness. Honk Honk!"

Who knows how long this protest will go on for as mandates across the globe are about to start forcing people out of jobs that they have had for years. While it may not be right it is what people are having to face at the moment and with BTC on their side, their efforts will be remembered. Even Elon Musk said that crypto “cannot be stopped” and this is an example of why that is so.
